Two people without invitations crashed President Obama’s first White House state dinner, the U.S. Secret Service said Wednesday.

The Secret Service confirmed a Washington Post report that the couple who crashed Tuesday night’s dinner were Tareq and Michaele Salahi. The Post described the couple as polo-playing socialites from northern Virginia. Read more…

A Swiss court has accepted film-maker Roman Polanski’s plea to be freed on bail from a Swiss jail where he is being held for a US child sex case. Polanski has been wanted in the US since fleeing the country in 1978 after pleading guilty to having unlawful sex a year earlier with a 13-year-old girl. China executes two over tainted milk powder scandal

China has executed two people for their role in a scandal involving tainted milk powder that resulted in six children dying, officials have said. More than 300,000 other infants were made ill from milk powder contaminated with melamine, an industrial chemical used to make plastics and fertiliser.
