Lil Wayne Documentary Cracks Top 10
Less than a day after being released, “The Carter”—QD3 Entertainment’s documentary on Lil Wayne—is already making noise on the iTunes charts.
“The Carter” has reportedly cracked the Top 10 on the digital movie charts after only being released 24 hours prior, landing at no. 9 on Mainstream Movie Charts, and sitting atop the Documentary Charts at no.1. The Carter producer, Quincy “QD3” Jones III, expressed his pleasure with the film’s early success to BET.
“That’s amazing” he told BET. “Our goal at this company [QD3 Entertainment] since 1994 was to go digital, so the digital numbers mean a lot to us. We put [the film] up late afternoon yesterday (November 17), and I think within the first two hours it was at no. 11. By the time I woke up the following day it was at no. 9. So it’s been a great response so far.”
While the film has received generally positive reviews, Lil Wayne himself attempted to have the project’s release blocked, suing QD3 Entertainment and requesting for a preliminary injunction for the documentary. However, a California Superior Court judge rejected the request, allowing QD3 Entertainment to seek distribution of the film.
