Make History @ World Cup

THE ASANTEHENE Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has tasked the senior national team, the Black Stars to produce the best African performance ever at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa next year.

“You should be disciplined, dedicated and above all eager to play your hearts out so that you will reach a stage where no African country has reached before at the World Cup in 2010,” he said.

He urged the team to draw inspiration from the national under-20 team, the Black Satellites’ triumph at the just-ended World Youth Championship by going all out to make history at the Mundial.

The Otumfuo made these remarks when he hosted the Black Stars to a party for qualifying for their successive World Cup at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday.

This was after the Black Stars had played a pulsating 2-2 drawn game with Mali at the Baba Yara Stadium on the last day of the qualifiers earlier on the day.

Present at the colourful occasion which was characterized by scintillating music and assorted food items included Minister of Sports Rashid Pelpuo, GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi and the entire Mali national team.

The Asantehene charged government to increase budgetary allocations for sports because of the revenue it brings to the country, adding, “We need to make sports attractive in the country.”

Sports, Otumfuo opined, was the best tool to unite the country, entreating all and sundry to play valuable roles to ensure its sustenance in the country.

Highlife icons such as Abranbtie Amakye Dede and Pat Thomas provided live music at the historic event.
