7500 bags of Cocoa locked up in 54 Communities
About seven thousand five hundred bags of Cocoa purchased by the various Cocoa Buying Companies in the Asunafo North and South Districts have been locked up in fifty-four communities following the rainfall which has rendered the thirty-eight kilometer road linking new Sawereso-Asumwura-Akrodea unmortorable.
For one month, no vehicle has been able to make the journey either way, posing numerous problems to the inhabitants. The Chief of New Sawereso, Nana Agyemang Duah, who made this known to Radio Ghana at Goaso, said portions of the road have been damaged making it difficult for vehicles to cross to the other end.
Articulated Trucks which are supposed to carry the Cocoa from Western Region and other Cocoa Marketing Depots are at the premises of the company due to the deplorable nature of the road.
Passengers and traders have been stranded. As a result, a number of foodstuffs have also been locked up in the area. Nana Duah explained that economic and other social activities have virtually come to a halt. He therefore appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority to as a matter of urgency ensure that road network in the affected communities is given the needed attention.
