For daring to go public with his critique of certain goings-on in the National Democratic Congress party and government, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, a well placed member of the party, faces disciplinary sanctions.

Deep throat sources within the NDC have hinted Myjoyonline.com that the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has signed a letter for the attention of Spio dated October 20, asking him to get himself ready to face the NDC’s National Disciplinary Committee of the party over his conduct.

The letter, a copy of which was shown reporters of Myjoyonline.com, said Ekwow Spio-Garbrah’s imminent “subpoena” for disciplinary action followed a report made by the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, to the Functional Executive Committee on October 15, after he (Spio) “…authored and caused to be published in the Friday September 18, and Wednesday, September 23rd issues of the Daily Graphic newspaper” an article “titled ‘Honouring Nkrumah’s Legacy: A challenge for NDC’.

The General Secretary’s letter said in the opinion of the party chairman, Spio’s conduct ran contrary to provisions of the party’s constitution; specifically its code of conduct and Disciplinary Code (Article 38 and 40 of NDC Constitution.)

Indications are that Spio has travelled out of the country, but calls to the NDC headquarters for some answers on the new development to the growing rift between the party bigwig on one hand and some officials on the other hand, hit a dead end, as party officials were reported very busy participating in activities line-up to welcome Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, on a two-day official visit to Ghana.

Spio last week held a press conference in Accra to address certain issues and some commentary that followed his publication, and he used the opportunity to question the party’s democratic credentials if he could not express himself on happenings in the party.

He also was emphatic on certain interests in the party who desire to see him out of the party but said nobody can force him out. Apart from Dr. Kwabena Adjei, Asiedu Nketiah himself and Mr. Ato Awhoi, also a party heavyweight, have openly castigated Spio for “washing the party’s dirty linen in public.
