Wednesdays At Paillote Continues @ Alliance Francaise

gouda‘WEDNESDAYS AT the Paillote’, a programme that provides a forum for traditional and contemporary music and dance groups to showcase their artistic creations continues at the Alliance Française in Accra throughout November and December.

Wednesday November 4 will feature Carlosman, a reggae artiste, backed by some of his friends. Together they will entertain the crowd with reggae beats laced with indigenous rhythms from Northern Ghana.

The youthful neo traditional group, Gouda Music, will mount the stage on Wednesday November 11 with a series of new compositions.

The group, which placed second during the New Music Ghana competition, has been rehearsing with a number of experienced musicians over the past few months.

They are expected to showcase a number of pieces that they adopted during the New Music Ghana competition, which was organized nationwide by the Institute for Music and Development with support from the Danish Centre for Music and Development in Copenhagen.

Costal Vibes, a group that has been creating a unique musical style, will showcase the results of their research and artistic creation on Wednesday November 18.

The group has over the past years thrilled reggae fans in several parts of Accra and its surrounding areas.

Wednesday November 25 will be the turn of Amamere Culture group, who will exhibit a variety of dance forms from several West African countries. Fresh from a performance tour of Europe, the group is set to explode with new techniques and movements.

Reggae fans will have yet another share of the “cake” on Wednesday December 2 with the Orthodox Band, a group that has been on the reggae scene for a considerable length of time.

They will perform afro reggae tunes alongside some refreshing compositions from their repertoire.

Wua Bia, a group that specializes in music from Northern Ghana, will close the curtain on ‘Wednesdays at the Paillote’ for the year 2009 with a show that would encompass Northern flutes, percussion and shakers.

All concerts are being sponsored by the Alliance Française in collaboration with the French Embassy in Accra.
