Adebayor Hails Satellites

Reigning African Player of the Year Emmanuel Adebayor has praised the Black Satellites for winning Africa’s first U-20 World Cup title.

The in-form Manchester City striker says he is delighted that Ghana won the tournament on the 100th birthday of the country’s Founding Father Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The Togo captain followed the exploits of the Ghana youth team as they beat Brazil in the final in Egypt to win the tournament two weeks ago.

Adebayor, who was raised in Ghana, says it came to him as no surprise that the Black Satellites are the first African side to win the title.

“It is proper and fitting that on the 100 years anniversary of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the Satellites have emerged the first country in Africa to win the coveted U-20 World Cup,” Adebayor said in a statement.

“Befittingly, your spectacular achievement was staged in the land of Ghana’s First Lady, Madam Fatia Nkrumah.

“You have certainly made Africa, Ghana and your nation’s founder proud.”

Adebayor is confident the performance of the Satellites will inspire the Black Stars to prevail at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“I am convinced that your sterling performance will inspire your senior team, the Black Stars, to replicate your supreme performance and achievement in South Africa where the FIFA World Cup will be held for the first time in Africa.”

Ghana has already qualified for the 2010 World Cup and Nations Cup which will be held in Angola.
