NDC Gurus Draw Dagger

NDC LogoTHE DESIRE to steer the affairs of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ho Central Constituency is brewing tension within the rank and file of the party as party gurus are at each other’s throats to outdo one another, no matter what it takes.

Sources within the party reveal that while one group is allegedly being headed by the Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Isaac Kodobisa, who is doing everything under the heavens to ensure that the current chairman, Winfred Agbemaflido is uprooted, the other side, led by the chairman himself, is also doing everything possible to retain his position.

The MCE allegedly declared at a party gathering at the VAG Hall in Ho that no one should vote for the current chairman, under whose regime the NDC had the largest constituency votes throughout the country.

He then went ahead to reveal his team, whom he urged delegates to vote for. He was said to have named Daniel Agbesi as his favourite for the chairmanship position, with some of the team members being recent Ho Polytechnic graduates who had just completed their National Service.

Money is alleged to be flowing ‘waawawaa’ as inducement by the MCE and his team. Also, depending on a delegate’s geographical area of residence, the MCE’s team is giving out between GH¢50 to GH¢100, with promises that there will be top ups before and after the elections, should his team members win.

The grudge, according to some party members who are not pleased with the development, can be traced to the MCE’s secret desire to contest for the seat of the Ho Central Member of Parliament (MP) when Captain George Nfojoh steps down.

He however sees the chairman as a threat to this ambition and has thus decided to go with his own team. Despite all attempts to sabotage his position on Friday, the current Chairman, according to sources, is relying on the relationship he has built with the people in the past, especially when the party was in opposition, as his source of inspiration.

A source hinted to DAILY GUIDE that the main challenge the chairman is facing now is with the fact that the MCE and his team have more to spend on the delegates, as they control the award of contracts and other juicy sources of income that are available in the municipality.

The source further revealed that the situation between the two teams has created tension to the extent that deciding on the venue for Friday’s election has been taken to another dimension altogether. Whiles the current constituency chairman had decided that the elections would be held at the Pensioners Hall, the MCE and his team have moved it to the VAG Hall.

The source is also worried that if certain people are entrusted with the running of the constituency’s affairs, doom and chaos lie ahead in the short run. In a telephone interview with DAILY GUIDE on Wednesday, the MCE denied any involvement in the selection of any executive come Friday saying, “As far as the constituency elections are concerned, I am expected to play a neutral role. I am not supposed to declare my vote but I know whom to vote for come Friday”.

He said as human beings he and the chairman had crossed each other at one point or the other but have always resolved their differences and moved forward. Mr. Kodobisa noted that he was only called to the VAG Hall by some party members who had problems with the postponement of the constituency elections.

He however never declared support for anyone. According to him, it was rather the chairman who lodged a complaint against the constituency secretary for allegedly fraudulently printing some nomination forms, which they had resolved.

He challenged anyone who could authenticate allegations that he was giving money to people to come forward and make it public instead of “hiding behind anonymity to tarnish my image”. Attempts by DAILY GUIDE to contact the Ho Central Constituency Chairman to hear his side of the story proved futile as he said he was concentrating on his campaign and did not want anything to cross him.
