Government to institute legal backing for NYEP

NYEP LogoGovernment is to institute a legal backing instrument to address the financial challenges of the National Youth Employment Programme, NYEP.  This instrument the government believes, will define appropriate, regular and prompt release of funds for NYEP activities and also for the payment of beneficiaries’ allowances.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia at the opening of a two-day orientation workshop for Greater Accra District Coordinators of the NYEP as well as Metropolitan and Municipal District Chief Executives in Accra.

He said government has also established an exit plan strategy for interns of the programme to be absorbed into a regular employment structure after two year of their contract.  Mr. Segbefia explained that the exit plan will create vacancies for other potential beneficiaries to be engaged on the programme.

He therefore charged all NYEP Coordinators and MMDCES who have been entrusted with funds to discard all forms of corruption and use them wisely to ensure the sustainability of the programme.

In a speech, the National Coordinator of NYEP, Abuga Pele, said the main objective of the workshop is to give coordinators a new focus of the programme.  The Adenta Municipal Chief Executive, Kakra Vanlare, expressed the hope that the workshop, will enable Youth Employment coordinators to fine-tune their strategies for finding job openings for the Ghanaian Youth.
