A nine-year-old boy was crushed to death in a stampede on Friday night when he fell from a truck fully loaded with jubilant youth who were celebrating Ghana’s victory in the FlFA Under-20 World Cup.

Identified only as Kobby, the boy is said to have fallen from the side of the vehicle where he had perched with other in a procession of vehicles and people at Angloga in Kumasi. He was trampled on by the crowd in the late night carnival.

The assembly member of Angloga, Amidu Gariba, who confirmed the incident, said the driver of the truck apparently did not notice the accident and drove on. He said the boy was sent to the Konfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
