Be Black is one of the latest additions to the Ghanaian music industry. Although not well known in Ghana, Be Black is making waves internationally with his ‘All Level’ single which has won two awards in the USA. His music could best be described as Afro Pop with R&B and hiplife influences.
Be Black grew up in Koforidua, and schooled at Koforidua Secondary Technical School but is currently pursuing International Relations in the Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus, which he has deferred for a year trying to promote his musical career.
Most of his music is about love and social political stuff. The title track, ‘All level’ is a club song which talks about a young lady in a club, getting the all guys’ attention. “I also have ‘Gold’, which talks about the kind of love a guy has for a young lady. There is also ‘Revolution’ that talks about the political and social problems in Africa. I have another track called ‘Angels’ which talks about the children of Africa; the problems of hunger, malnutrition and stuff like that”, Be Black describes the songs on his album.
The 10-track album is complete and has a November 4 targeted release date. It is titled all level. “I chose the title, ‘All Level’ because the album has a variety of styles on it. It has R&B, Afro pop, some jazz elements as well as hiplife”, he adds.
The album was produced partly in Cyprus and in Ghana, at Be Black’s own studio which was set up by his US-based record label, Winding Road Music. According to the budding artist, his album is already an awarding winning album because the single, ‘All Level’ won two awards in the US. It won the Grandie Music Award organized by Radio Indy in Arizona, for the best new CD of the year. I addition to winning the Gold artiste of the year, the single also topped the broadjam.com chart for four weeks. As a result, he was signed by Winding-Road Music, which recorded most of the songs on the upcoming album.
He hopes to reshoot his video for his lead single to match the maturity and acclaim the single has already earned. “I am actually reshooting the video for the song. When I came out with the video, I was on my own but my record label thinks we should shoot a new video for the song because the song is too matured for the old video. “
Be Black hopes that with his degree in International Relations and his music, he can be able to make a difference in the lives of people, particular in Africa.
“I have some idea about politics, and having Africa’s interest at heart and knowing the problems the children face as well as what I have passed through, I think I should educate people about problems so that we can all help to solve the problems together. “Be Black is one of the latest additions to the Ghanaian music industry.
