KNUST to start Professional Masters of Engineering



The College of Engineering of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology will from March next year start a Professional Masters of Engineering Programme.  

The eighteen month course is a part-time non residential programme, intended for practicing engineers who need to enhance their skills.  The programme will have a blend of technical and managerial contents to prepare the engineers for leadership positions.

It is in line with this, that stakeholders from industry, academia, government and practicing engineers have met in Accra to make inputs to enhance the quality of the programme.

Giving an overview of the Programme, the Provost of the College of Engineering, Professor Francis Momade, said the course will look at Petroleum Engineering and Management, Energy Conservation and Analysis among others.

He said the target group will be graduate engineers who possess a Bachelor of  Science Degree in Engineering from a recognized University, be an active member of the Ghana Institute of Engineers, with at least four years of work experience.

Professor Momade said they are deliberating on how to incorporate HND engineering students who have at least seven years work experience into the Programme.

The Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Kofi Omane Buamah called on the College to consider incorporating Road Transportation and Environmental Waste Management into the programme.

He said government will consider paying more attention to the sponsorship of students who will want to pursue higher professional education in the country.
