Lion of Ghana comes loaded for Boricua Bear
This is not just another fighter pounding the bag shot.
This picture, taken by Top Rank shutterbug workhorse Chris Farina, is worth more than a thousand words because it shows you a hungry fighter named Joshua Clottey.
This Ghanaian will battle not only WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto Saturday night at Madison Square, he will also contend with a hostile crowd of about 17,500, about 87 percent of whom will be Puerto Ricans backing their favorite son, Cotto.
Can the African warrior beat Cotto and the crowd? If he does he may dampen the enthusiasm a bit for Sunday’s Puerto Rican Day Parade.
But I bet you will see and hear an impromptu parade of Ghanaians in The Bronx and in Harlem along 116 Street.
Something tells me we have a classic fight about to explode.
Some guy named Manny Pacquiao will be sitting in the first pew.
This might be a religious experience for true boxing lovers.
